Invisible Comfort for a Luxury Residence

Yaradale Residence

About the Project

This 1,100 m² residence combines large-scale volumes - including high ceilings and double-height voids - with a highly resolved architectural finish.

The project focused on delivering high-performance heating and cooling while ensuring the system remained fully integrated within the building, preserving the architectural intent with minimal visible impact.
Key Challenges
Conditioning a home of this scale required a coordinated approach that reduced visual impact while maintaining performance and serviceability.
  • Conditioning a 1,100 m² residence with high ceilings and double-height spaces
  • Maintaining a clean architectural outcome with minimal visible services
  • Avoiding grilles, bulkheads and ceiling drops within primary spaces
  • Delivering consistent conditions across large and varied volumes
  • Ensuring full system serviceability within a highly resolved design
Approach
AirSmart adopted a systems-led approach, embedding air delivery directly into the building fabric.

The focus was to resolve air distribution, comfort and access as part of the architecture - not applied to it.
  • Integrated air delivery within architectural details such as shadow lines and joinery
  • Designed airflow paths to maintain conditions without reliance on visible outlets
  • Removed the need for bulkheads and ceiling modifications within key areas
  • Consolidated plant and access into a dedicated service zone
  • Coordinated closely with the project team to align system design with architectural intent
Solution
A customised AirSmart Indoor Environment System was implemented to deliver integrated environmental control throughout the home.
  • Air delivery through shadow line details above joinery and at room edges
  • Bathroom air delivery integrated with exhaust ventilation points
  • Bedrooms conditioned via adjoining spaces such as walk-in robes
  • No visible grilles throughout the residence
  • No bulkheads, drop ceilings or access panels within primary conditioned areas
  • Plant and system access via a dedicated walk-in plant room and roof access
The system is embedded within the built form - delivering performance with minimal visible mechanical infrastructure.
Key Outcomes
The system delivers consistent performance while maintaining a high level of architectural integration.
  • No visible air conditioning elements within primary living spaces
  • Stable indoor conditions across high ceilings and large open volumes
  • Integration aligned with premium architectural finishes
  • Design intent maintained across all interior spaces
  • Full system serviceability achieved through a dedicated plant area
  • High-performance outcome tailored to a complex residential environment

Why It Matters
This project demonstrates how environmental systems can be resolved as part of the architecture, rather than applied to it.

By integrating air delivery into the building fabric and consolidating plant into dedicated service areas, the system avoids the typical visual and spatial compromises associated with ducted air conditioning.

The result is a balance between architectural integrity, system performance and long-term serviceability.
